: Brent,
: Thanks for info. Sorry I mistakenly assumed you were a grandpa. Even though you and I are pretty close in age, about the time I was getting my first guitar you were already arriving on the Nashville scene. It just seems like I've been looking up to you as an icon for so many years...hope you take it as a compliment. Regarding the Gary Allan cut, Smoke Rings in the Dark, how did you create that sound? It is so perfect for that song as your sounds always are.
: Thanks,
: Joe
hi joe, compliment taken with the heart it was given--no harm here. smoke rings was recorded with a gretsch 6120 through a victoria amplifier reverbrato---using spring reverb--- straight into an old vox ac 30 with bill lawrence cable. the amp was miked with a sm 57, and a sennheiser 421---miking the front and back of the vox--throwing the back-of-amp-mic out of phase as to match the phasing of the grill cloth mic---that whole record is one i'm proud of the guitar tones---thanks, brent.
