: Hi Brent I am still looking for the sound I hear in my head and on the cd's. I play a tele through a Peavey Profex II processor, a 65' reissue Twin and use a Boss Compressor. I just can't seem to find that sweet tele sound that you and Brent Mason have. When I turn the sustain up on my compressor i get to much pick clicking sounds, and when i turn it down there is not enough sustain. I replaced my original tele pickup with the Seymour Duncan Nashville Session pickup and it didn't help that much. What do you and Brent Mason use to get that great clean tele sound like on those Alan Jackson songs.

: Thanks for your help

hi michael---i have two teles that i rely on for most of that work. a 60 slab-rosewood neck one with original pickups, and a joe glaser bender with b and g string benders. as far as some secret, there really are none---the way people attack, and vary their picking technique that generates pleasing tones are mostly in the hands, and chosing what to play. i always recommending recording yourself on tape---no matter how simple, and listening back, because what sounds good to your ear in the room may not be at all what sounds good on tape. it's a challenge, even for those who do this everyday. try going staight into the amp, recording it, and then adding one effect at a time--perhaps something in the chain is pulling your ear to a not-so-pleasing tone. best of luck, brent.
