Columbia, TN USA - Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 06:12:07 PM (EST) | Hey Brent!
I recently saw your yputube video (PRS booth NAMM 2008) and loved the tone you were getting with the Swamp Ash Special. I know that 99% of that tone is in your fingers, but was wondering what kind of amp and effects you were using? Just killer playing and tone!
Thanks in advance for everything.

roma, sd italy - Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 10:58:08 PM (EST) | I have had the pleasure of knowing Brent since meeting him back when he played on my song "CHRISTMAS AGAIN" which was the title cut on the Oak Ridge Boys Christmas album. It was recorded back in the 80's @ the (then) Oaks personal studio in Hendersonville (this studio is now owned by Ricky Skaggs). I felt a kinship with Brent from that day. A couple years later when it came time for my brother Chris and I to pick ONE member of Nashville's elite "A Team" to play with our band on our Capitol Records project, well, there was no one else even considered. I have been a fan of not just Brent's abilities as a musician but as a man. He's always had a friendly smile for me and kind words of encouragement throughout the years. He made such an impression on me that I can honestly say (and he can verify) that he was the only non-family member of my "Birthday & Postcard" list for MANY years...hahahaha. I am honored to call him a friend. RG

Sure miss ya'll, Daves been keeping us busy. I bet your still in Steamboat. I'll do my best to get over and give you some more guitar lessons so you can win another Guitar Player of the Year award. Hey Dave got me a Baby Martin for Christmas, what a year for getting guitars. I'm thankful to our Father, thats for sure. See ya'll soon, I'm at Blackbird Studios, stop by if your near.

Hey Brent,
I see that the Ford Pinto wagon got you to where you wanted to be! I still remember being in awe whenever I watched you play as a teenager, and today as I watched you play on you-tube with Gary G. at the PRS booth, I was awestruck again. I see you have joined me in getting thicker and thinner, but that you are still the same in many other ways, as I remember those days long gone. I hope to catch you next time you play in Steamboat, and am longing for the day I can sit and watch you play with Gale W again! Till then keep your eyes looking east and your ears tuned for that trumpet!

Steamboat Springs, CO USA - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 10:53:03 AM (EST) | Brent, I don't know if you remember me but we did quite a few sessions together some 20 years ago. Mostly with Norro Wilson. I used to be his band leader on many of his custom dates and on some of the masters and as you know, if you were available we wanted you on electric. I'm so very proud of your fantastic career and now with Joe's great records you are the man! I'm living in Lakeland, FL now with my wife and remember that little palm tree you used to put on your amp rack during the sessions? I've got 5 in my yard now. I still pick a little when they ask me and I have great memories of those sessions we did together so long ago. May God continue to truly bless you brother and may He give you the desires of your heart.

westminster, CO USA - Friday, August 4, 2006 at 07:59:10 AM (EST) | My husband Don and I introduced ourselves to you at the Hospice dinner in STMBT. We enjoyed your performance that night as well as Sun., July 2nd. In fact, Sunday night was awesome with Linda Davis and Billy Dean. Thanks for sharing all this great talent with us, yours included.
We mentioned to you that our son flies for HCA in Nashville. Should you ever want to talk flying, he'd be a good one to talk to--anywhere from King Air to Cessna Citation 10's. I'm one of those strange people who love the sound of jet engines, so maybe somehow I contributed to his love of flying. BBB

Shreveport, La. USA - Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 02:23:34 PM (EST) | hi mr. rowan,
i was interested in having you hear a demo or two sung by sandi kight. she works for bill sherry at aerugo productions in nashville. i feel very fortunate to have her sing on my demo's.she hopes to become a country artist and i think she has a fresh young voice that the country would love to hear.she already sounds very accomplished to me and all that i have let hear her. i've tried radio stations and very few small record labels without any luck. i stopped trying to promote my songs and started trying to promote sandi. if you would give her a listen, i would be most happy to mail several to you. i also have a record of her singing natural woman. my favorite established singer
is julie roberts. i think she is top notch.
thanks

west palm bch, fl USA - Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 02:22:02 PM (EST) | hi mr rowan,
saw your name while looking at julie roberts web site
and how instrumental you were in helping her get discovered. she's a real find. i'm trying to figure out how to help my young demo singer. i wasn't asked to help but she's not making fast progress. she works for bill sherry at aerugo productions, he being another really fine guitarist. do you listen to demo's for young hopefuls? i've sent some to a few record co's
without luck. i tried to get opinions about her singing voice but no one said a peep. i stopped trying to promote my songs and promote sandi kight. would you give her a listen if i send two or three? i think she is better than average but i don't know how to help her. thanks, sue white

Ashland City, TN USA - Sunday, March 19, 2006 at 11:37:12 AM (EST) | Hey Brent,
I'd like to jog your memory. I know you've done thousands of sessions. I had the chance to work a session with you under producer John Scheulenberger around 1996 on a demo for my band (Quartermile), at SoundStage.I learned a tremendous amount from you in a couple days time. You were very helpful in influencing my techniques, and setup. I now have an elaborate rig that includes a Mark IV boogie through a THD for a preamp, a pair of Blues Devilles with QSL 100 watters all thru. A Boss GT-6, roland GR-33, (GK-2A pickup), Voce V3 organ module, Yamaha MU90R tone generator, Yamaha QY700 and QY-22 sequencers, Leslie cabinet, Gallien Krueger 200mk(keyboard amp). I find that it just keeps growing, and I am always looking for ways to improve my style and setup. You have inspired me to acheive more than just the average player.
Thanks,
Tom Feller

We're really looking forward to seeing you on stage and welcoming you to our "home away from home." See you soon! :)

I was talking to Greg Surratt about you this morning after church. He was promoting your visit to Seacoast next Sunday. I can't wait. I am a songwriter and have a publisher in Nashville, Aaron Brown, and write some with arranger Steve Mauldin. I love that scene. Look forward to hearing you in Mt Pleasant.

I'm so very proud of you - I always knew you were special! I've been living in Charleston since I left Nashville in 1995...would love to catch up with you while you're in town next weekend. I'll definitely be at one of the services at Seacoast, so I'll try to get your attention either before or after. It's only been about 15 years since we worked together!!! My, how time flies - Take care and talk soon, Susi

Savannah, GA USA - Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 08:02:07 AM (EST) | Hi Brent, thought it was time someone from England [where we love 'real' country music]..informed you just how much i appreciate, not only your legendary guitar playing..but also your production of both Joe Nichols and Julie Roberts.!It's a pity that some other nashville producers don't follow your 'clean' technique..so much of today's product is overproduced! look forward to more of the same.

HOUSTON, TX USA - Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 08:31:58 AM (EST) | Brent,
I don' know if you remember me but I'm origonally from Olney/Graham, Tx. and I met you last year in Tim Dubois' office. I really enjoyed your music, your perspective on nature, and your views about how fewer notes are usually more. It's cool to hear someone who could play every note on the guitar twice in 4 bars say that less is more. Anyway, stumbled on to your page tonight and really liked it. Hope things are going well on Joe's record.

Advance, mo USA - Friday, March 25, 2005 at 08:42:45 AM (EST) | Hi, Brent. Your music sounds wonderful, and I love your philosophy about playing fewer notes. I, too, am a guitarist, having played for the past 40 years, and I think as we grow older we realize that the space between the notes is as important as the actual notes played. You and I (and my wife) share another common passion—backpacking and the outdoors. Despite a busy career in the music business (I've owned a commercial recording studio since 1984 and have been a contributing editor for Mix magazine for the past 13 years—and more recently, for Electronic Musician, as well), I've managed to backpack and hike around 5500 miles of wilderness since the late '70s. My wife and I moved to beautiful Sisters, Oregon seven years ago for a lifestyle change. There are three incredible wilderness areas up in the Cascade Mountains about 20-30 minutes' drive from our place. I love that your music is largely inspired by the outdoors; I've written some of my favorite songs sitting around a campfire out in the middle of nowhere. Come on out to Oregon sometime and I'll take you to some of my favorite wilderness destinations known only to those who travel by map and compass.

Brent was the session leader and I got to meet him and watch him work. I was very impressed with his musical ability (obviously) and just as much as how well he got along with everyone involved and how he brought an atmosphere of togetherness and amiability to the session. I have stayed a big fan ever since. A real team player and a joy to be around.

Before I was even aware that you were his producer I had been telling everyone that Joe Nichols was absolutely THE best voice in country music history! You shore know how to pick em! His producer aint to bad either! My demo's proved to me a long time ago that you were the most up and coming producer in Country music. Great Job! Thanks for the great music! Joe is absolutely the best!

Unfortunately, nothing happened but maybe that was a blessing. Mr. Rowan played on her demo work at Loud. We have been fans since. Gordon, Wisc. USA - Sunday, August 1, 2004 at 12:25:47 PM (EST) | I am a big country music fan. After hearing Julie Roberts song 'Break Down Here' this spring through Internet, I bought the whole CD while visiting the States this summer. It is a masterpiece! You did magnificent job with the producing it, Mr. Rowan. I have played to CD over and over and over again, and I just LOVE the sound of it. It is a 'perfect record' with perfect, very fresh sounds, songs and musicians. In order to find about the producer, the main creator of this sound, I found myself on this website. Thanks again, and greetings from Finland (from the Northern Europe).

Love the site. I'm a big fan of your work! Julie Roberts and Joe Nichols play constantly in my car (when I'm not listening to Matt Jenkins' demos, of course!). Please tell the family hi and I hope to see them soon.

Dallas, TX USA - Monday, June 14, 2004 at 02:39:09 PM (EST) | Hello Brent;
It's great that you put out such a wonderful cd. Your guitar playing is really great. I also noticed from the In the Moment on Julie Roberts that you produced her cd and did a great job. I went out and bought her cd also and she has such as bluesy country voice and very emotional and warm. Also the songs that were chosen for the album were are very well written. I am a singer/songwriter and am going to have Galen Breen with Gatorhole studios do some demos of some of my songs, some full productions and some guitar/vocal. I am going to sing on them myself and come to Nashville soon to do that. Curious after I do that other than joining Nashville Songwriters, entering the CMT/NSAI Annual Songwriting competition and maybe check out some writers nights there in Nashville, what other advice would you offer for possibly pursuing publishing of my songs and possibly getting someone to hear my demos with me from an artist standpoint? From a songwriter standpoint is it best to live in Nashville or can you be out of state? I am willing to move to Nashville as my wife and I like the Brentwood and Franklin areas alot. Thank you again and keep up the great work.

I understand you are producing a new group called McHayes. I always loved Wades music. He's quite a talent and so is Mark McClurg. Any idea how soon they will be looking for musicians. I would love to be considered for the bass playing position. I currently play for Opry member, Charlie Louvin but at this stage in his life he doesn't do many dates. I am looking for someone with a little more touring stability. If you would be interested I will be happy to schedule a time to talk to you or send you a press kit. If you have any showcases before the tour starts I would like to have a shot at those too. Thanks for your consideration.

Got nostalgic about the old Kix Brooks band and started poking names into Google to see what turned up. And out popped your nice page. You ever hear from Danny Milliner or Hassell Teekell? I run into Kix every now and then, and Jon Randall Stewart is my wife's third cousin, so I stay in touch.
Keep on Truckin'!

Nashville, TN USA - Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at 10:27:19 AM (EST) | Hi Brent. I'm a guitarist trying to get sessions. I hear that there are sessions that are out there. How would I get my name out there to the producers? Would I have to join the union right off the bat? Are there sessions that I could be invited to that could help me have experience. I've already gotten two record credit and recorded many projects for different people. How can you help.

I left you messages back in February and had hoped to talk to you for some quick advice. I've written 10 songs this year that are ready to launch but I have no idea how to get started. Hope you can spare a few minutes to offer me a little wisdom on how to get my songs noticed.

Waxahachie, Tx USA - Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at 12:42:40 PM (EST) | Always enjoy listening to your work. I ran into Thom Ward a couple days ago at his brother Vernon's funeral. I didn't know if you had heard. Thom's fine, and seems to like working with computers better than he liked working with Clint. Have a good summer, and check out my "spartan" webpage if you get a chance. Take Care! Doc

Kingston, Ontario Canada - Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at 10:40:49 AM (EST) | I was not familiar with you or your music. I heard you play on "All the Paths" from the 1991 project "Big God" by the Imperials. I was blown away! Your playing was awesome! I am a big fan of guitar in all kinds of music. Dann Huff is my favorite player. I'm going to check out more of your sessions.

I think it is very cool how you take time to answer all those guys questions. I have asked a few as well.
I own a studio here in Seattle, and have learned a few tricks from the forum. I am a little new a the engineering side
of things so this is where this helps. Ronnie Brookshire is up here in April to mix a project. I am looking
forward to learning from a great to put some of your cool vibe to use.

Nashville, TN USA - Monday, February 25, 2002 at 12:09:11 PM (EST) | Excellent page Brent.
I found the 'secret tone' that I've been searching for and it's due to this page.
DBX 160X in the effect loop of my Mesa/Boogie.
Unbelievable difference from running it between the guitar and the amp.
Thanks for passing good advice to those of us outside the 'know'.

Kansas City, MO USA - Sunday, February 24, 2002 at 09:57:27 AM (EST) | Brent, I attended your concert here in Tampa at Grace Family Church. It was AWESOME! I too share your love of the guitar (don't play well yet, but still love it) I also share your sentiments on sound and silence...never heard it said better. It seems sometimes that muscians try to stuff too many notes in a measure and it messess up the mood of the tune. Oh well, enough rambling, since I am not really a musician, I can only speak for what sounds good to me and you sir are awesome! Thank you for the example.
